A twenty-something girl's take on the world.

Too old to know better & too young to give a damn.

We were meant to live for so much more.

How many times within the last week have you heard about Blake and Miranda divorcing? Ok, yes, the initial announcement threw me off my rocker and I was sad for a solid 60 seconds. Fact of the matter is, people get divorced everyday – every single day. People get divorced and then, they move on with their lives. My newsfeed is literally flooded with these damn articles… Blake cheated, Miranda cheated, divorce this, divorce that. Why are there polls being thrown around like, “Who’s side are you on? Blake or Miranda?” Who actually cares though? If you do care, you should absolutely re-think what you’re doing with your life. Seriously, get it together. Watch the news or something, because Blake and Miranda splitting up should be the least of your worries.

There’s something that really rubs me the wrong way and that’s how twisted the media is. We live in a society where people are more concerned with what “celebrities” are doing, than actual hardcore news. Step outside of your pretty little narcissistic box and open up your eyes and ears. We live in an ugly world, people. It’s a world divided by hate, a world full of self-destruction, materialistic morons, and senseless mass casualties.

We live in a world, where you can’t go watch a movie with your kids, because a worthless human being will go crazy and pull a gun on you. We live in a world, where you can’t put on a uniform to defend your country, because some ungrateful piece of crap will come to your work and gun you down. We live in a world where you can’t call a handyman for a house call, because he’ll stab you to death. We live in a world, where you can’t feel safe in your own home, because two reckless teenagers will break in and kill your family of five. We live in a world, where a police officer can’t conduct a routine traffic stop, because he’ll be fatally shot.

I can’t wrap my mind around the senseless killing. My heart is shattered. All of my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by the latest tragedies.

Far-fetched and unlikely, but maybe one day, our world will find peace. In the words of John Lennon, we were meant to live for so much more.

Love conquers all.

9407823d8ea63d7ff4e7235d52187a87Love is love – plain & simple.

Aside from what the Bible says, what’s so wrong about two people that love one another, sharing a life together? How is it any different from a man and a woman doing so?

What if the gay community is actually a part of God’s plan? What if he’s trying to test the Christians, to see if we all really do love one another? Just some food for thought.

Don’t spread negativity and bash what you don’t understand. Instead, radiate love and promote happiness for all.

I believe we as Christians must love the sinner, but hate the sin. Rather than bash the gay community with our Bible thumping, we should quietly pray for their forgiveness. Never judge them or condemn them, because that’s not our call. I have love for everyone.

“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.” 1 Peter 4:8-9

Eat the damn cake.

685f9d920a3c61ab4206cac421bffbfaI haven’t posted a blog in two weeks? Time flies by when you’re busy juggling everything life throws your way.

I guess you can say I’ve been lacking a bit of inspiration lately. Go figure, cake inspired me…

All afternoon, I’ve been trying to resist that left over red velvet cake in the fridge. After an intense and lengthy five minute internal battle with myself, I’ve surrendered. “Eat the damn cake”, right? I must say, it was a tasteful “loss”.

On with my point – It got me thinking, why wouldn’t I eat the cake? What’s it going to hurt if I have a sliver? Why am I even contemplating this? I realize this is a far-fetched comparison, but it relates back to overthinking and not following your heart, or in terms of my cake, not following your gut.

Why do we as humans overthink? We are without a doubt our very own worst enemies. It’s a toxic habit and does it ever lead to good? 10 out of 10 times, it exacerbates everything. Half of the time, you’ll create a problem that wasn’t even there to begin with.

I hate that I’m bringing myself to this level, because literally every time I hear this term, I feel shivers throughout my whole body, but “YOLO”. Seriously, you only get this one short life. I will continually shove this spiel in all of your faces. If it doesn’t work out… oh well, there’s always next time. You can’t be afraid to open up and live a little. Don’t fear regret and don’t stress yourself out over pretty mistakes. Whatever is going to happen, is going to happen, and it’s completely out of your hands.

What that being said, live spontaneously – You’re not going to get a taste of success or a lick of satisfaction unless you take a bite of that damn cake!

Have your cake and eat it too.

Sometimes, a girl just needs some chocolate. No questions asked.

Is anyone else experiencing an ugly and constant internal battle, trying to decide if you would rather have that third slice of pizza or be thin? I say, why not have your cake and eat it too? Then again, I also don’t want to be mistaken for a beached whale this Summer either. Do you feel the struggle?

I’m a foodie, plain and simple. If someone were to ask me, “What do you have planned for Summer?” Food would be at the top of my list… making it, eating it, you name it. Of course, wine-ing isn’t far behind. If food is involved, in any way shape or form, you can guarantee i’ll be there. Actually, as I sit here and scroll through some of the re-pinned treats I have tucked away for Summer, my mouth is watering.

Pinterest is practically the Internet’s god forsaken gift to women. Unfortunately, it brings to your attention some dangerous and unhealthy, but delicious foods that you probably would never think to make. Like, Oreo s’mores. Seriously? As if my butt wasn’t big enough already, you’re going to dangle two of the greatest creations turned into one, over my head? It’s just not right.

So, thats my spiel. I figure if I share at least 5 of my favorite recipes with all of you, you guys will be enticed to eat them too, and I won’t feel so guilty indulging in them myself. Justification is a beautiful thing! Just some food for thought. Pun intended.

The joys of being a girl with two older brothers.

Dads get a lot of credit (rightfully so.) They have their own holiday and they always get the biggest piece of meat at the dinner table. But too often, brothers gets overlooked – they don’t get anywhere near the kind of recognition they deserve, and that’s a damn shame.

Ok, a moment of honesty… Our relationships haven’t always been peaches and creme (you know how kids are.) Now, we’re closer than ever.

This Elite Daily article says it all: http://elitedaily.com/life/culture/14-ways-growing-brothers-makes-stronger-woman/918079/

17 reasons why I think big brothers are irreplaceable:

  1. You can always count on them (advice, laughs, anything really.)
  2. They’re protective (sometimes too much.)
  3. Don’t break my heart, they’ll find you (and probably kill you.)
  4. They have good looking friends.
  5. You learn how to fight and defend yourself at a very young age.
  6. If you get in trouble with your parents, brothers are always solid allies.
  7. They shut down creepers immediately.
  8. They will always be honest and tell you how it is (even if it’s not what you want to hear.)
  9. They will always defend you.
  10. If you need to talk about a weird bathroom problem, he’s your dude.
  11. Toilet humor doesn’t make you squeamish.
  12. They’re your biggest fans.
  13. They’re wealths of knowledge (they’ve already been there & done the next thing.)
  14. They’ll eat your scraps when you have no room left to finish your plate.
  15. You really and truly know the meaning of a “love-hate relationship.”
  16. You may not always see eye to eye, but no matter what, they’ll always have your best interest at heart.
  17. They’re like your own personal super heroes.

Seriously though, the list is endless…

There’s no buddy like a big brother & I’m lucky enough to have two.

Give thanks & take nothing for granted.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We’re always wishing for something someone else has, but realistically, there are people who will never have what you have right now. So, give thanks & take nothing for granted.

I am very grateful for the life that I have been blessed with, not only today, but everyday.

I am thankful for my amazing family, my boyfriend, my friends and for the love & support they continuously give me. I am thankful for my health & the health of my family. I’m thankful for dirty dishes, which means I have food on the table. I am thankful for my education, because as much as I complain about school – if you’re not learning, you’re not living. I am thankful to live in a free country & even more thankful for the brave men & women who commit their lives to protecting and preserving our country. I am thankful for our Guardian Angels who are always among us (Joey) I am thankful for the trials and tribulations in my life, for they have helped me become a stronger and better person. And I’m most thankful for wine, obvi.

Oh, hello weekend.

After a long week of school & work, you have to appreciate a morning without a set alarm. Saturday mornings are simply the best – no class, no work, no rushing around or obligations… just me, my bed & my coffee (coffee being a priority, of course.) Basically, my morning goes as follows: get up, make coffee, drink coffee and make more coffee. Need I say more?

Wishing everyone a glorious Saturday – make the most of it!
