A twenty-something girl's take on the world.

Too old to know better & too young to give a damn.

To the first man I ever loved and the woman that gave birth to me.

1514195_10152505965373747_519905737_nI must say, I feel so blessed to have the most wonderful parents god could grace his children with. If there are two people in this world that I know I can count on, it’s these two. Not only are they the best parents, but they’re the best friends.

They laugh with me, they cry with me, they’re a shoulder to lean on, an ear to talk to, and a source of endless love. It’s not necessarily what they have done for me, although I appreciate every last ounce of it, but more of what they have taught me. They gave me the wings to fly and enough room to fall, but no matter what, they have always been there to pick me back up. There may come a day that they won’t be able to help me, but I know it won’t come without a try.

IMG_0685They taught me that not everything is going to go as planned, but everything will be ok. They have never stopped believing in me, and in return, I have never stop believing in myself. They have showed me the meaning of hard work and dedication. They have taught me to love myself enough to love someone else. They have never sheltered me from the world, but have always kept me within close distance. They were always strict, but after all of these years, you realize it was out of nothing but love. They taught me right from wrong and how to treat others with even more respect than I would expect in return. They have taught me to always stand for my beliefs, hold onto my values, and never lose my morals. They taught me the definition of self respect, how a man should treat a woman, and how a woman should treat a man. They taught me how to think, not what to think. They planted seeds and watched me grow.

You only get one set of parents, and although you may not agree with everything they have done or said, they’re your one and only set. Theres no refunds or returns. They brought you into this world. Respect them, cherish them, and never give up on them.

So, a message to my mom and dad… From studying my feet and watching me breathe as a baby, dealing with my hormonal tantrums as a teenager, to molding me into a strong-willed, loving, and caring woman… I can’t say thank you enough, but thank you for giving me the world. You’re my rocks. I love you both to the moon and back, ’til the end of time.

The joys of being a girl with two older brothers.

Dads get a lot of credit (rightfully so.) They have their own holiday and they always get the biggest piece of meat at the dinner table. But too often, brothers gets overlooked – they don’t get anywhere near the kind of recognition they deserve, and that’s a damn shame.

Ok, a moment of honesty… Our relationships haven’t always been peaches and creme (you know how kids are.) Now, we’re closer than ever.

This Elite Daily article says it all: http://elitedaily.com/life/culture/14-ways-growing-brothers-makes-stronger-woman/918079/

17 reasons why I think big brothers are irreplaceable:

  1. You can always count on them (advice, laughs, anything really.)
  2. They’re protective (sometimes too much.)
  3. Don’t break my heart, they’ll find you (and probably kill you.)
  4. They have good looking friends.
  5. You learn how to fight and defend yourself at a very young age.
  6. If you get in trouble with your parents, brothers are always solid allies.
  7. They shut down creepers immediately.
  8. They will always be honest and tell you how it is (even if it’s not what you want to hear.)
  9. They will always defend you.
  10. If you need to talk about a weird bathroom problem, he’s your dude.
  11. Toilet humor doesn’t make you squeamish.
  12. They’re your biggest fans.
  13. They’re wealths of knowledge (they’ve already been there & done the next thing.)
  14. They’ll eat your scraps when you have no room left to finish your plate.
  15. You really and truly know the meaning of a “love-hate relationship.”
  16. You may not always see eye to eye, but no matter what, they’ll always have your best interest at heart.
  17. They’re like your own personal super heroes.

Seriously though, the list is endless…

There’s no buddy like a big brother & I’m lucky enough to have two.
