A twenty-something girl's take on the world.

Too old to know better & too young to give a damn.

Do it with passion or not at all.

Find your passion and run with it.

passion_feat.jpg Deciding to major in communication, with a focus in public relations, was the best decision I have ever made. Starting in grade school, I always had a desire to write about what I am truly passionate about. Don’t get me wrong, I can write about topics that don’t necessarily fancy me, but it may take a little more time and effort.

I started journaling and really getting into writing all the way back in Fourth grade. To this day, I still have a poem I wrote on 9/11. It’s really interesting to see how far my writing has come, but also to see how much I was aware of at such a young age. Thank God for moms and their motherly instincts to hoard all of our grade school craftings, right?

I love the idea of being able to freely voice my thoughts and opinions, knowing there are other people out there, reading what I write, who can relate to how I feel and can further form a connection and understanding of who I really am. This is the exact reason behind why I started my blog.

I cross-post my blogs on various social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and most importantly, LinkedIn. The most recent social media channel I have toyed around with is Google+. I have a little over 300 connections on LinkedIn, so sharing my blog with that particular audience has opened many doors for me. Multiple recruiters have read my blog and in return reached out to express their interest in helping me find a job upon graduation. It’s always nice to have your work recognized and appreciated!

Along with my ability to think creatively, my passion to write has led me to the pursuit of a career in digital marketing and hopefully one day, advertising. I believe writing is a key ingredient in the success of any strong digital marketing strategy. Being able to form relevant and trend-worthy content is vital in any industry. I would like to become more familiar with SEO (search engine optimization) and general analytics, so that I can stand out in this field. When you think about it, advertising is really nothing more than good writing. In today’s digital age, the most important characteristic of effective advertising is simple, yet engaging content.

I am constantly following people in the field of digital marketing and advertising on Twitter, some more influential than others. The groups of people I follow are very diverse. I follow Madeline Haller, Senior Editor at Cosmopolitan, who tweets about humorous everyday events that probably every 20-something year old girl in America can relate to. I follow Matt Bellassai, Senior Editor at Buzzfeed. He represents everything I would love to be. He makes hilarious wine-related videos, tweets whatever is on his mind and worships Beyonce (because who doesn’t). I follow Lauren Berger from Intern Queen, because she is an inspirational person and is very engaging with her followers. I also follow a lot of companies and agencies, because I like to stay up to date with the current happenings and events. Some examples of this are HootSuite, Buffer, Buzzfeed, The Archer Group, Neff Associates, Brownstone PR, 1 Trick Pony, Masterminds and Philly Ad Club.

Ideally, a year from now, I see myself working in a modern day Philly-based advertising agency, but who knows what the future has in store for me! A word of advice for all of you reading this – Never settle for anything less than what you’re passionate about… Just a little something my parents have always instilled in me (thanks mom and dad).

“Life is short. If there was ever a moment to follow your passion and do something that matters to you, that moment is now.”

Eat the damn cake.

685f9d920a3c61ab4206cac421bffbfaI haven’t posted a blog in two weeks? Time flies by when you’re busy juggling everything life throws your way.

I guess you can say I’ve been lacking a bit of inspiration lately. Go figure, cake inspired me…

All afternoon, I’ve been trying to resist that left over red velvet cake in the fridge. After an intense and lengthy five minute internal battle with myself, I’ve surrendered. “Eat the damn cake”, right? I must say, it was a tasteful “loss”.

On with my point – It got me thinking, why wouldn’t I eat the cake? What’s it going to hurt if I have a sliver? Why am I even contemplating this? I realize this is a far-fetched comparison, but it relates back to overthinking and not following your heart, or in terms of my cake, not following your gut.

Why do we as humans overthink? We are without a doubt our very own worst enemies. It’s a toxic habit and does it ever lead to good? 10 out of 10 times, it exacerbates everything. Half of the time, you’ll create a problem that wasn’t even there to begin with.

I hate that I’m bringing myself to this level, because literally every time I hear this term, I feel shivers throughout my whole body, but “YOLO”. Seriously, you only get this one short life. I will continually shove this spiel in all of your faces. If it doesn’t work out… oh well, there’s always next time. You can’t be afraid to open up and live a little. Don’t fear regret and don’t stress yourself out over pretty mistakes. Whatever is going to happen, is going to happen, and it’s completely out of your hands.

What that being said, live spontaneously – You’re not going to get a taste of success or a lick of satisfaction unless you take a bite of that damn cake!

Don’t live an empty life.

There is a yes at the end of every tunnel of no.

11355617_10153948885173747_348173416_nThree posts, three days in a row… Who am I? This is rare and unheard of, but I’m rolling with it.

You know, I’ve been pretty hard on myself lately… I’m turning 23 next week and I sit here with no real job. To me, that’s a little disheartening. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t sit on my rear all day and fiddle my thumbs… I’m a full time student, I work part time as a freelancer and I do occasional promotional events, but I’m just not content. I need more, I want more.

Well, while I was feeling pretty low yesterday, the strangest thing happened to me. I was looking for some inspiration and I read a quote by Rumi… “Respond to every call that excites your spirit.” I don’t know what made me do it, but I decided to apply to a few locally based modeling and promotion companies. I figure what the hell, what’s it gonna hurt? So, I sent them a few pictures and my information. To my surprise, I heard back almost instantly from both companies.

Obviously, I realize this doesn’t make me a Victoria Secret angel (duh), but it does goes to show that you shouldn’t give up on anything you want. Pursue whatever it is that excites your soul and anything that genuinely makes you happy.

You only have this one precious, short life to live, so don’t look back in 20 years and have regrets. Don’t live an empty life. Don’t let someone tell you “no” or “you can’t” because on the contrary, you can. You can do anything you put your mind and heart into. Stick with it, be persistent, keep going. Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try, right?

I don’t know who says it, but it’s like that quote goes… “Turn your cants into cans and your dreams into plans.” The epitome of it all… Try and try again.

If I can give you any ounce of motivation, never take no for an answer.
